Happy Mother’s Day

As each of you celebrates mother’s day I hope you have happiness
and
warm feelings in your heart. Many of you, mothers yourself, can appreciate the
joy
it brings. As I sit here thinking about my mother I am amazed at all she has
accomplished and taught me on how to be a better, stronger person.
My mom was the first in her family to complete college and to become a solid
and
determined woman for herself and her family. Coming from Pakistan back in
1979, I
remember us growing up on food stamps, visiting ever thrift store and
garage sale
for cloths, toys and house goods. I remember her saving every penny
to buy us 5 kids
matching cloths or to sew them on her own. I never really thought
much about it, as
the time spent with my mother was much more precious than
any piece of clothing or
toy could bring. Mom kept the family together. Mom taught
us how to fend for ourselves.
I distinctly remember my mom buying a race car
set we found at a garage sale for
me and my brothers; I wonder what groceries,
food or medicine she had forgone to
give us that little treasure.
My mom and dad always made sure the family came first while working
day and night to make
things better and easier for us all. They taught 5 kids the
meaning of hard work and to keep opening
doors regardless of how rusty and squeaky
the hinges might be. Many times you never seem to understand
the gifts mothers bring
until you get older.
My mom, now in her 70s, still amazes me every day with her enthusiasm to learn. Finding her on Facebook or talking with family members around the world on Skype is not uncommon. Mom continues to teach us, whether in person, over the phone or with the little voice in our heads; Keep courageous, Provide a strong foundation for the family, Keep learning.
Thank you mom for all you have done for us. I hope we have made you proud.
